An old pond!
A frog jumps in-
The sound of water.

Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)

Pretty pink lotus flowers  flourished in this pond a month ago , see my Creatures of  the Pond  post.

Not anymore. .. Green weeds grew quickly and surely in the still pond water and overpowered them…

And making it habitable and conducive for new life to form…

I haven’t had a stroll at the city botanic gardens for ages although I did pass through a couple of times enroute funruns. The last time I visited, the pond was emptied of water so I was quite pleased to see the pond full of  life this time round  and especially in awe of the pink lotus flowers and leaves floating on the surface . They covered almost the entire pond. I tried my best to capture them on camera and apparently I wasn’t the only one doing so. A bubbly young guy came over and said he was taking pics of them too and asked to see mine in my camera which I obliged… although I forgot to ask him  to show his in return.

I also got to take pics of this guy, a water dragon (physignathus lesueruii).

I went to photograph some trees and came over to the pond again to shoot the lotus flowers when I saw a guy grinning and making ripples on  the water surface  with his chopsticks. He had just finished eating sushi for lunch.  Every time I looked , he was grinning from ear to ear. He later came over and asked me if  I had seen the eel.  Ohhh.. so that was what he was grinning about. ( I hope he didn’t feed sushi to the eel.) Can you spot it?

Actually, I did see an eel earlier on. It scared two aborigine school girls out of their wits when they spotted it in the water but that was at a different location of the pond. It could be the same eel though.

I think I’ll post the ducks and moorhens in another post. Uploading pics takes up a lot of time and I need to go to bed. Sleepy..
